When is Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day in the Philippines is celebrated by most people on the second Sunday of May. This means Mother’s Day takes place on Sunday May 12 in 2024, and on Sunday May 11 in 2025.

Mother’s Day origin

Since the 1920's until the last few decades, Mother's Day was traditionally celebrated on the first Monday of December. These days most Filipinos celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day on every second Sunday of May and on every third Sunday of June respectively.

Celebrating Mother’s Day

Many celebrate Mother’s Day by showing their appreciation for their mothers or mother figures. Traditionally mothers are honored with cards, flowers, chocolates, presents and dining out.

Flowers have been part of Mother’s Day since the 17th century where people attended a prayer service in honour of the Virgin Mary, followed by giving their own mothers gifts and flowers. Carnations are regarded as classic Mother’s Day flowers and symbolize motherhood, love, admiration and purity. Other popular Mother’s Day flowers are tulips, lilies and roses.
