Celebrating Eid ul-Fitr

Eid ul-Fitr is important because it follows one of the most sacred months of all: Ramadan. The Eid celebrations begin the morning after the new moon has been sighted. People wake up early and begin the day with greeting the family and performing Salah (prayers).

People often dress in new clothes to get ready for the day ahead. After this it’s time to sit down with family and friends for a shared breakfast. Eid Salah is then performed in congregation. The rest of the day is spent visiting family and friends and celebrating. The phrase “Eid Mubarak” is used to wish each other a blessed Eid.
